A little bit of clarity about the evidence-based therapeutic techniques that I am skilled with:
Mindfulness practices help with discovery of mind, body and spirit, it builds self-awareness, and grounds you in the present moment. Mindfulness can invoke calm and peacefulness, and is a key ingredient to cultivate self-compassion for healing and soothing.
Mindful Self-Compassion: Unfortunately, most of us didn’t get the manual on how to be gentle or compassionate towards ourselves. In fact, many of us have a harsh inner critic that is consistently beating ourselves up. “Self-compassion entails being warm and understanding toward ourselves when we suffer, fail, or feel inadequate, rather than ignoring our pain or flagellating ourselves with self-criticism. (self-compassion.org)”
Developing and nurturing a self-compassion practice is key for optimal wellness and building resilience for many difficult experiences or stress we can encounter on a daily basis.
Energy work: (such as Qigong, meditative mindful movement): regulate personal energy; cultivate personal power; invoke calm and relaxation; release energy you are ready to let go of.
Tapping: also known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), is a powerful stress relief technique. Tapping is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. This tool gives you a method for regulation in mind and nervous system.
Polyvagal Theory: This is all about regulating and rewiring your nervous system. Neuroscience as come a long way, even in the last 10 years, to help us understand how mental health issues are intertwined with the body and nervous system. Neuroplasticity gives us a method to 'rewire' with the nervous system in very specific ways to bring calm quickly and work towards retraining your nervous system back to healthy functioning. Wouldn't you love to get back to 'normal' baseline, so you can go beyond just survival mode, and into thriving mode.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an evidenced based, trauma informed technique (similar to EMDR), that uses eye movements to desensitize the emotional charge of a traumatic memory and then reset your nervous system. With A.R.T. we say “Keep the knowledge, Lose the pain.” You do not need to talk about the trauma to heal it.
